Seasons

Cecilia Xu

1.
summer, do not weep
brush the sky with peonies
pennies shine up new

2.
autumn, forgive me
for pumpkins yet to ripen
water softens stone

3.

winter, at the door
slender fingers twist and curl
myriads of white

4.
spring, a bright, tart knife
startles the swallows from sleep
colouring pale cheeks
