There is No Mystery

John Leonard

There is no mystery, the book
Of the world was written long ago—
If you have not riffled its pages,
Wondered at its beauty, and touched
Upon its teachings, then where,
Tell me, does the fault lie?

.

.

.

1

near the pansy garden you planted forme

I strained my eyes to the season

a blade of grass curls in my palm

look up and see birds migrate

carries the smell of your coming

then you said casually

‘loneliness and waiting are good for women.’

2

on our marriage bed

your gaze written in the sea of the deep

melting my overnight heart

lustre shed

not knowing then that I have

wed waiting

3

I am a white flower

‘love-in-idleness’

your eyes open –

a castle in the mist with

spring curtain to your window

a river giggles deep of woods

when the veil lifts

a sauntering into your heart

no matter the menace

it’s from the name

my magic springs

花の語

1.
